Chasing MMR is a BAD idea (imo)

Here’s why…

Hey guys

Do you feel like you’re doing all the right things, but still not winning?

I want to give you a perspective that will change the game for you.

As you guys know, I’ve been hardstuck Grand Champ 2 the last four (yes, 4) Rocket League seasons.

Aaaand… its tilting lol.

The last few days, I’ve been getting more tilted than usual. But thats when I remembered some old advice from an SSL friend.

Here’s what he said:

“Stop worrying so much about rank. Focusing on winning every match can actually hold you back from improving. You should treat ranked like you’re playing against a bot… its just training in the grand scheme of things.

You see guys,

There are two different markers of success in Rocket League.

The first one is noticeable,

#1 - Your rank.

This is the ONLY thing most players look at.

But this mindset is exactly what keeps them from climbing higher in ranks…

That’s because there’s actually a second marker of success.

#2 - Invisible results (Your ‘hidden’ MMR).

You see, the rank system takes time to calibrate. And it will only catch on to your actual skill if you play enough games.

So, if you find yourself asking:

"Why am I not ranking up?”

Or…

“Why did I lose that match even though I played well?"

Just give it time.

You’re actually making more progress than you realize.

You see, just playing the game is winning. Even if you’re not ranking up right away, those tough losses and close games are exactly when you're laying the groundwork for success in your gameplay.

Remember, improvement is rarely in a straight line…

You might spend months feeling like you're in the same place,

Then all a sudden,

EVERYTHING clicks and you find yourself EXPLODING through ranks.

There’s nothing wrong with playing to win. But its not everything.

This mindset shift has helped me stay motivated. And, it helps me keep a level head in the ranked jungle. I hope this helped you too.

Now get out there and give it your all, guys.

I’m rooting for you.

Luke
